Cozumel Highlights Tour and Playa Mia
Henry Morgan discovered Cozumel and used it as a hideout. Later on, in the early 1800’s, another well-known pirate, Jean Lafitte, hid from his pursuers in the waters of Cozumel as well. Cozumel remained uninhabited until 1847, when a few Spanish-descendants’ families settled on the island fleeing away from the native Maya-descendants’ revolt that ignited the “War of the Castes” (war of classes) which lasted over 50 years.
The tour starts at your hotel’s lobby where the transport will take you to Playa del Carmen’s local pier; there we will welcome you for checking-in and a brief before boarding you into a ferry ship for a short deep-sea navigation. Once on Cozumel´s downtown pier, you will take a transport for a round-the-island drive.
The first stop will be at TEQUILA HACIENDA for a Tequila-101 course where you will learn about the traditional process to obtain the must emblematic drink of Mexico. To reinforce your learning you will be able to sample different kinds of tequila. You might take along some samples for homework.
Back on the road again, your guide will mention about the whos, whats, whens and whys of the island as you are driven along the scenic coastline to EL MIRADOR; a natural limestone lookout and a great photo opportunity at this quirky structure.
Then we will leave the rather rough open sea eastern coast for the more tranquil waters of the west coast. It is time for the best beach location on the island and Caribbean´s largest beach club: Playa Mia Grand Beach and Water Park. Relax on the beach, Splash into the pools. Watch your relentless little merciless pirates shoot the water cannons aboard the pirate ship at “Buccaneer´s Bay” kids’ pool. Come all the way down the challenging 200-foot long Twin Twister Water slides; endure the 500’ adventure Floating Park. Dare for kayaks, Hobie Cats or pedal boats; enjoy a complete all-you-can-eat buffet with unlimited self-serving machine refreshments; treat yourself with twenty more free services and attractions!
Optional amenities, such as á-la-carte menu, soft drinks, cash bar, massaging, snorkel gear rental, wave runners, parasailing, and others, are available for an additional fee. Ask your host for prices.
Later on, your transport is ready to head for the Discover Mexico Park; there, you will experience a virtual tour through Mexico’s colorful culture and fascinating history depicted with all-over-Mexico video displays, unique museum pieces, masterly handcrafted pieces of popular art and accurately detailed models of the most emblematic Mexican structures, from ancient ruin sites trough the most contemporary buildings. You will also find a convenient snack bar featuring traditional Mexican food and a handcrafts and souvenirs shop.
Afterwards it´s time to go back to down town where you will have time to taste some shopping before ferry’s departure; fine goods ranging from handcrafts and t-shirts to top notch watches and jewelry.
Once back on mainland, your ground transport awaits to take you back to the comfort of your hotel after a day of unforgettable experiences.
